We are all getting very excited about our Graduation, time is slipping away and we would like to get information out to you early enough for your own planning.
The Graduation ceremony will be held on Tuesday 18th December at East Doncaster Secondary College. The students finish school at 3.30pm on this day, as normal. Some choose to get picked up slightly earlier to get their hair done, but this is definitely NOT a requirement. Hair needs to be neat and off the face.
Students will be expected to arrive at EDSC at 5.30pm. Parents will be able to wait in the foyer until the start of the ceremony at 6.00pm. It is essential all students are there on time.
Full school uniform is expected to be worn to the ceremony. This includes black shoes, correct socks and hair off faces. Bomber jackets are required by all students for the ceremony. As this is a school event, normal school rules apply - NO nail polish or make-up (a little bit of lip gloss would be OK). Please do NOT make a manicure appointment.
Once the ceremony is finished at EDSC, the students make their way ‘somewhere’ to get changed. Usually this is their own home, or a friend’s, or sometimes the car. The Grade 6 teachers stay at EDSC to finalise our packing up requirements and meet the students at school. The ceremony is expected to start at 6pm and finish at approximately 7.25pm (this depends slightly on how long everybody talks for). The students are invited to arrive at TPPS at 7.45pm. Some are a little later, closer to 8pm. A slightly staggered arrival is fine as it is very calm back at school and we mingle and don’t start eating until everyone is there. I would recommend not getting changed in the toilets there, as it is very special entering the decorated Hall in their dinner wear. As this is still a school function, NO mobile phones should be brought to the dinner,
There is usually a mix of dress at the dinner. We encourage the kids to wear ‘neat casual clothes that you would expect to wear to go out with your family to a nice restaurant for a special occasion’. For most, this means summer sandals and a nice dress or skirt/top and for the boys, chinos and a shirt (as opposed to a t-shirt). Please do not feel the need to buy something especially for it, unless it is time for new summer clothes that you know you will get more wear out of over summer. It is definitely not intended to be formal.
A big thank you to the wonderful committee of parents who are busily preparing a special dinner for the students. It should be a fantastic night!
